History and Culture

Woking boasts a long and rich history with the earliest evidence of humans from 15,000 years ago. The growth of the modern town being heavilty influenced by new transport links including the Basingstoke Canal, the Wey Navigation and the London southampton railway.

Significant landmarks include the Shah Jahan Mosque, the first purpose-built mosque in the UK, the historic ruins of Woking Palace, a former royal residence, and Brookwood Cemetery, the largest cemetery in the UK.
